OCD Stories

Related imageMost of us have heard of the mental health disorder known as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). For those that need a refresher, the National Health Institute defines it as:

“A common, chronic and long-lasting disorder in which a person has uncontrollable, reoccurring thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions) that he or she feels the urge to repeat over and over.”

Many people believe that OCD is simply rooted in perfectionist tendencies, but it’s much more than a need to feel organized. For those that suffer with OCD, it can look like a life-long battle with irrational, unwanted thoughts and behaviours which can become debilitating to the point of being unable to function in daily activities such as work or school. If this sounds like you, it may be time to see a mental health professional to treat these anxiety-influenced tendencies.

A great educational resource is The OCD Stories. This website features stories from real people who suffer from OCD, and is a very real demonstration of the different ways in which the disorder can manifest itself in a variety of people.
